Mission Statement

We, in Rylane National School, support the philosophy of education based on three general aims of primary education as stated in the Curaclam na Bunscoile:

  • To enable the child to live a full life as a child and to realise his/her potential as a unique individual
  • To enable the child to develop as a social being through living and cooperating with others and so contribute to the good of society
  • To prepare the child for further education and lifelong learning.

It is our wish that the school’s total curriculum acknowledges the variety of needs and learning abilities among the pupils and endeavours to strike a balance between an academic core and the provision of a wide range of other important learning experiences including information technology, sport and the arts.

We recognise that the overall growth of the child best takes place in a positive learning environment, where the atmosphere is one of openness and friendliness. This will enable children to develop personally and socially and to relate to others with understanding and respect. Within each class and throughout the school, we strive to create a strong sense of community so that each child feels valued and included.

We nurture and develop in the children a respect for and an appreciation of cultural and ethnic differences as citizens of a global community.

We acknowledge the Catholic traditions in Rylane National School. We value the sacramental preparation programmes for First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Acknowledgement and respect is given to all other values, aspirations and beliefs.

The parents are the primary educators of their children and the school is where the professional educators complement the work of the home. In recognition of this fact, the school seeks to maintain friendly collaboration and a good working rapport with all parents. The child’s balanced growth and development, allied to academic progress, is the focus of such collaboration.

We recognise the place of irish language and culture in the traditions of our school.

It is the wish of Rylane National School that each pupil should leave this school with a positive awareness of self, a sense of personal and social responsibility, and with the knowledge, skills and attitudes which are conducive to a fulfilled life and to his/her growth and development in the future.

The holistic development of each individual child, spiritual, moral, cognitive, academic, emotional, imaginative, aesthetic, social and physical shall be recognised and nurtured.

The school motto ‘For the good of the individual child’ very much resonates within the school environment.
